Presented by: Charly Washipabano, Citizenship Participation Officer on November 15, 2007.
The document is the official proposal presented by Charly Washipabano in Amos at the CNYC’s board of directors meeting, which was approved. Stemming from that meeting, it was agreed that this project be used with the upcoming CNYC elections, which are originally set for the 28th of May. As you will read through the proposal, this program follows all components of an actual election, which could spring more interest and hopefully generate a bigger voting turn-out for this election. Since the program is originally set up to follow an actual election, we figured that the best way to jump start this project (as a pilot project) would be with the CNYC elections of the coming year.
Introduction
This particular project could become very beneficial to
our voting turn-out for any election period, whether it be for local,
regional, provincial or national elections. From what has been gathered
through the project’s statistics on the formal website, as well as
through information sessions through meetings with the project’s
coordinators and active participants, the effects that this project has
spans not only through short-term increase in voting turn-out, but also
on a long-term basis. More importantly, the repercussions that this
project has go beyond the voting aspect but also directly to the
Youth’s interest in politics in general, whether it is for personal
knowledge or even for those that will take the interest in being
directly involved with the political arena. Much more than a simple
vote, Voters in Training represents a general strategy aimed at turning
our future electors into truly responsible citizens.
