The CNYC with the Cree Health Board have introduced a training program that aims to teach Cree Youth Life skills through the Nishiiyuu Way that was developed utilizing our Elders.
The Nishiiyuu Way of healing is going back to the roots where the strength of the individual comes from the Rites of Passage in the ancient way which created their mind set in the pre-contact era.
Nishiiyuu Personal Development Program
Their mental and physical health was robust, they were in harmony with their environment and they were economically independent. Everybody owned property and everybody had responsibility.
The principles of the Rites of Passage the Nishiiyuu Way is to be applied in relation to today’s world of instant communications and instant gratification and in the world of social media and virtual existence.
The purpose of this program is to create a new mindset, the Nishiiyuu
Way, the Wisdom of which is to be transferred and transmitted by the
Elders to the Youths.
Living in the Shadows
Statistics in health and education reveal that the youths are too disempowered. The youths are caught in the shadows of the new world and the old world. This is one of the causes of disempowerment. They almost live in the twilight zone between the innovative and creative world of today and the old world and the pre-internet and pre- windows time of yesterday.
They have full access to the virtual world and sometimes watch it as they would watch a TV show without playing an active role in it. They use it for communicating and for socializing. Very rarely do they participate in it as the youth of the rest of Canada and the U.S.A. for building family and Nations.
